The Start of Research

As we are creating a  music video the best thing before we get ideas is to research other music videos to see the different types out there already. Through my research, mainly using the website http://www.youtube.com/
My group and I thought it would be a good idea to also research music videos that other previous students have done for their A2 coursework from using Youtube. i found this useful as i was able to see things that worked was and things that where best to avoid shown in the prezi below:

Kate Nash - Merry Happy ( A2 coursework 2008 By Made: Jade Hughes,Megan Kearns,Emily Kearns,
                                                                                  Beverley Garcia.)

I also found that there are different styles to music videos other than the generic pop/chart music videos such as artisic music videos shown in the youtube clip below

Enough through in this video there is not alot going on and is very simple, i think it is very effective for the music. this is due to using a simple animation where the characters are moving in time to the music, the viewer is focussed in listening to the music making them being able to take it in. This is reflected using a white background giving the connotations of pure simple and plan giving the impression that the only thing / story about this piece is the music. In addition the characters in the video look like (((((monks)))) which only have one foccuss which ios their god who they are devoted to - this is reflected in the clips as istead on a god the worship the music.

A Narrowed Idea

In the lesson after consideration and a group discussion, we have decided to produce a music video for our A2 coursework. This was based on after looking at the brief for the short film option, we decided that the task had too much of an open choice. Due to this it could equal to an over complex storyline, making the film hard to understand for the audience. In addition with the short film being so wide and the music video being a more narrowed choice then our work would be more concise, precise and effective.

For the music video we would have to find the piece of music first. This action would help us as in order to gather ideas for the music video we would have to understand the lyrics to the song by what the meaning is. Otherwise, if we create an idea before hand the video we create would be totally irrelevant. Therefore it would not be effective. Although we have decided that we would have to include shots of the band playing due to the purpose of music videos are a way of promoting the band and the song.

Another factor that our group had to consider was that the song would have to be original and not be copyrighted. this would mean that one task we would have to sort out would be finding a band that we could use. However, Ryan has a track that his old band has recorded which could be an option. However, the only problem would be that where the band is not together anymore, gaining footage of the band and photography for the ancillary tasks would be hard.

Beginnig Of A Long Road

For my A2 Media coursework i will be working within a group of four which includes ( hyperlinks shown to their own blogs)

Ryan -
and myself.

After looking at the options for the A2 coursework unit our group has decided to focus on the second and third option for the moment. This due to at this point in time our group are unsure. Therefore we are all going research both music videos and short films until we get an idea and would then be well prepared for either option.

Music Video
In addition as a group we came up with the situation that in order to get/ create ideas for the music video we would have to look at the lyrics of the song we would be using.

Short Film
However, from the Mondays lesson we came up with a few ideas that could, with a bit of work and a different angle, be an idea. One idea was a day in a life of a cat - this would include the camera being in the point of view of the animal and taking part in humorous tasks.
