Evaluation 4 -How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Evaluation 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Evaluation 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The two ancillary tasks that I have created for this piece of coursework are a digi pack and a poster to promote the digi pack. The combination of the main product and ancillary tasks are effective as all three links together in some way or form. This has been done through the storyline of the music video is using characters at youth age so I have made sure that this corresponds to the ancillary tasks I have used settings and people of the same background.

In addition, the front cover of the digi pack includes the name of the band in glows sticks with the light of a lamppost. I have done this as the image reflects the name being “lost” in the “light”. The glow sticks also act as iconography of youth because this age range uses them the most and the target market for the combination of the coursework production is aim at this youth market. The combination with this image with music video is effective as it promotes the band not only the single which is different. I think this is effective as it create triangulation within the promotion of the band including the music and the band itself.

Also, I think this combination with the ancillary tasks and the media product is effective with each promoting a different aspect it works. This is due to where the music video has the focus of the single promoting to the audience to the music, the audience are more likely with the poster to buy the digi pack. Then with the digi pack this promotes the band.

Furthermore, the colours I have used with the digi pack and the poster are effective towards the main product as have mostly male connotations. This is due to the type of music of the single that the group and I have used in the music video could appeal to males more than females. However, although within the target market of the music there could be females too. This is why as well as having the black background, the glow stick colours are range in a series of yellows and greens which are seen as unisex colours but including the colour pink to include some femininity.

Evaluation 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Ancillary Task 2 - the poster

http://twitpic.com/4w7ycn

The poster that i have created for the band would be sent to differernt music magazines and film magazines as the traget audience for them would be the same audience that i would be targeting which would be youth. It would also be published on the web and in busstops. The poster would link with the digi pak from having the same logo. For the subtitles i wanted them to be different and have created them my self from drawing them. i wanted it to be edgy to fit which the whole skater vibe. i used white as it is contrasting and easy  to stand out which is important to see it from a distance. I have used the photo of the crowd which shows them having a good time. This would give connotations to the audience that they would have a good time to if they where to listen to the music. Plus, the people in the poster are youth which would relate to the audience. i like that the logo of the band although is the same is differnt with the background

When uploading the poster i had differculties in uploading the file and changing formats. Therfore i had to take a picture using my phone to upload it onto a subcompany of twitter - twitpic. However, the differculty of uploading was, although stressful, rewarding as it allowed me to challenage myself through using new forms of media under pressure situations.

Ancilliary task 1 - the digi pak

these are the covers for my digi pak. I have chosen to use a background colour of black as it is a unsex colour. Plus with the colours on top it makes them stand out. For the front cover i wanted it to reflect the band. this has been done by the cover doing what the band's name is which is the title being "lost" in the "light". The product has changed from my orginal design by not including a lampost i was going to take the photo myself but thought that i would not be able to get the lampost and the writing into the same shot. Therefore, i looked at different lamposts from googleimages.com which are shown below right. the lampost was going to be the source where the bands name was "lost" in and the lamppost would bring in connotations from the street which is a sterotypical hang out place for youth. Then i descided that it would be best to have more of a desk lamp to give connations of students which would relate to the target audience and the characters of the music video.
However, i felt that maybe this could look out of place with the glow sticks as they give connotations of partys yet the desklamp would show studying and working hard which is not what i wanted to represent. Therefore i dropped it completely.

For the back cover i have used the glow sticks again and have used different colours. The colours i have chosen are unsex colours as the target market would be of both genders so it was important for the piece to be gender neutral. However from the heavy use of black this could indicate a more male appeal which would represent the band. For the digi pak i wanted it to be a single but with extra tracks. this is because where it is a new band the buyer would get a better taste for the music. Also, i have featured the music video onto the digi pak. I have done this as it is a good way to promote the music video but also the people who buy the pak would feel it is better value for money. I think this is important as if the target market is for youth they would not have much depositble income especally with students therefore the idea for getting more for there moeny would be better. Due to this i would feel the best retail preice for my digi pak would be £3.99.  The front has been done in white which contrasts to the black so is easy and clear to see. i have not included the number of the tracks which is shown in the  dreamboats and petticoats ablum below left. This is because i wanted people to look at the track names and i think it makes them stand out alot more. i have used a front that is quite formal. this is because i wanted a strong contrast to make it di

Digi Pak Production

Over the last week, i have started and nearly finished the digi pak. The design of my digi pak are scan in below.

To take the photographs for the album cover i had to do a lot of prep work. First from a local shop i bought several glow sticks for the cover of my digi pack. My orginal plan was to cut the glow sticks to write the words through lines like match sticks. However, what i didnt realised was when i cut the sticks the colour leaks out and turns to liquid. This is shown in the photo to the left.

Although there was a set back i really liked the idea. This was because the band/name would be "lost in the lights". So through lots of tape and an extras pair of hands i stuck the glow sticks in the shape of the words shown left. However, this proved difficult as the letters were difficlut to construct. so with letters such the S and the L i joined them together (yellow letters). Plus, with words such as in and the, the glow sticks were not malable to create them. although through the disaster of the liquid drama, i found that i could write with the liquid which i did and worked well. The G i wrote in the orange colour but i was not as clear and harder to write with so i used the blue over the top. The last letter S was not clear as i could not write on the tape. However, i used photoshop to change this.

Also, before i started this i played with different persitions with thew glow sticks for the cd cover design and different parts of the cover. I wanted to get a shot taken from the below angle so to do this i attached them to the light to create these photos.
